hey bro, is that Manchester, NH?

Anyway, I only settlr for the best. Nokian Hakkapalita I. These tires were used by the SCCA in their winter rally races.

The new model has been released this year, the Hakkapalita II. These are awesome, really.

If you can't afford them, then check out Cooper Wintermaster, you can usually get them for about $75 each, and they are pretty good.

Other than that, I've heard a lot of good about Blizzaks, um, who makes those... well I'm having a senior moment right now, time for someone else to jump in....

Blizzaks are BF Goodrich. From what I have heard they are the best snow tires out there.
I'm going to go out on a limb and disagree with this. I really feel that Nokian are the best, I know this from personal experience. However, I haven't used Blizzaks personally, so I guess I should really try them out. Has anyone ever seen a comparison between all the different winter tires out there by a neutral party, like a magazine or something? beer

"Blizzaks are Bridgestone and they are awesome for snow."

I have tried a number of snow tires, and find these to be excellent. I am told that the Michilen Alpines are exceptional as well, but have not tried them yet. Snow tires have come a huge way in design over the last decade, and are now clearly superior to the various all season designs, and well worth the money if you are in the snow and ice belt.

Well, I've been doing a lot of reading about the Blizzaks, and depending on which model you're referring to, they did not test very well against other snow tires. In fact, in one test (I can find it again if anyone else wants to read it) they placed last in every single test... I'll stick with my Hakas ****

How do you guys feel about these tires: Dunlop Winter Sport M2 (Winter) ?

My dad ordered 2 (for the front, is that enough?) for $150/tire-shipped and mounted/balanced

Is this a good tire for my stock '97?

I don't know anything about those tires, however, two for the front IS NOT ENOUGH! In fact it is very dangerous. You would be better off putting the winter tires on the back wheels. The reason is that with slippery tires at the rear and good ones at the front will result in a severe oversteering situation... your rear end will be coming around you all the time... can you say "oversteer"?

I agree with the above posters. You really want snow tires on all four wheels, not just the drive fronts. The cost is very low for the added safety factor.

Well, I talked to my dad again today and told him that we should really get 4 tires. He still wasn't convinced. I told him about the Blizzaks and the Artic-Alpins, but he read in Consumer Reports that the Dunlop Wintersports outperformed the Blizzaks and Alpins.

He called the tire place again and the guy said he believed that 4 tires is best, but he didn't really try to force my dad at all. He said that he ordered those 2 Dunlops, and my dad said to add two more on there and hopefully they'd give us a price break.

We'lll see...

Good work there, Skye. I am not a fan of Consumer Reports, but 4 is better than 2, regardless of the particular make and model, I suspect. Hope he gets that price break for the extra 2 ordered. :)

I suspect you will do fine with the Blizzaks, but it is worth keeping in mind that there are several different models within the family of that name. I do not remember all the model numbers, but it is worth checking out on the Bridgestone web site or with someone familiar with the tires to see which particular model is best for your driving situation and local conditions. Where I am, we get a lot of very mixed conditions, with frequent freeze/thaw cycles, and the road can go from clear to snow covered to ice covered and back to clear in the space of a couple of days. For those conditions, and my driving habits, I ended up with the LM-22s, I think it was. But they are one of the compromise Blizzaks rather than the most extreme snow effort model. So do check it out a bit and see which will be best for you.
