So I have a set of Hankook RS-3's that I purchased for track tires. I used them a few times this year (they worked great) and want to store them over the winter. Is there anything special I should do to make sure they are still nice and grippy next year? Someone I talked to recommended wrapping them in trash bags and storing them in a warmer place than the garage, but I don't know if the person knew what he was talking about. I have another set of tires that the SHO will be setting on for the winter. Thanks

the most important thing is to keep them out of the sun.

I have stored tires in my garage over winter for years with no harmful effects. of course, inside the house might be better, but the wife would likely veto that idea....

I dunno so much about the trash bags, but I agree on a warmish place (above 45) with normal amounts of humidity to prevent them from drying out. But im not an expert on this in any means.

Are those an R compound, or a street tire?

My R comps are in the basement sitting on a piece of cardboard. My summer tires for my GTP will be there also, because I wont have room in the garage for them. I wouldn't really worry about it if theyre just sticky street tires, cause the compound will be fine once it warms up again.

They are a street tire, but they are very soft. I dont remember their treadware rating, but I know it is alot softer than my star specs.

Keep them out of below freezing temps for sure. My Star Specs sat for 6 months, outside of of Kirk's shop during the winter. They seemed fine for the most part (And are still being driven on none the less), but they definently hardened up and were not the grip monsters they once were. At that point I had gone to R-Comps, so they were just my street tire, so maximum grip wasn't important anymore.

Thanks for the info. I will make room in my attached garage so they don't freeze. My shop (where I do most my work) only getts the heater turned on when I am out there working.
