My windsheild wipers get stuck in the middle of the windsheild sometimes and dont move from there when the wipers are turned on, sometimes they will do one full swing (up then down), then on the next swing it will get stuck all the way at the top of the swing (like towards the side of the windsheild) I searched the forum and the only thing I found relevant to my problem was mention of a wiper lever inside the "column"...any info on this?

The prolem occurs when: You mist the windsheild or turn on the intermittent...

and it doesnt happen when you have it set to either high or low...on high and low the wipers work beutifully....

Any info on this?

Thanks...

You might want to clean the contacts on your multi-function switch mounted on the column. I bought a new one for $35 though, with a lifetime warranty.

Thats my guess too. Mine did the same thing and when I replaced the MFS, the problems went away.

It's not the MFS. I've been there, done that 3 times running.

It's the position sensor on the back of the motor that needs cleaning or replacement. For me the 3rd motor was the charm. :thumb:

Tell us more as my wipers are now stuck in the up position when I turn them off but otherwise work fine.

I have the same problem with my 93. I talked to a guy in the parts department at a Ford dealership and he said more then likely its the wiper governor. He said its located under the dash next to the steering column. He asked if it happened on low and high. I said just intermitted. He then said definitely the governor. He showed me what it looked like on their screen. Its basically a box I guess. Bad thing is that its a $100 part.

There are only two other parts to the system besides the multifunction switch: The wiper motor and the wiper control module (a little box by the chime module). My guess would be that the motor is the problem, you could try to disassemble it, clean the brushes and contacts and inspect everything and you might be able to get it working right again. Only recommended for the technically minded.

I had the same sort of problem and was able to get a wiper motor from the local boneyard for like $10. Wipers have worked fine for the past 18 months.

Caution! Make sure you get the correct motor. Some have two connectors and some have only one. (my '95 has only one)

Thanks for the heads-up on that aspect. :thumb:

Wiper motor differences

I was just checking them out myself - The 89-93 (and before also if you care about regular Tauruses) have two connectors (4 pin and 3 pin), and the 94-95 have one six-wire connector.

Something else to clean is really simple... Clean the connector on the wiper motor plug. For some reason mid 90's Fords I've dealt with had a real problem with that fine gray road dust getting in the connector. My 92 Mustang left me on the side of the road in a snowstorm one time because of this. I also had a friend who went and replaced his 3 times and they weren't bad, just the damn connector was cruddy.
