Oh boy i can only imagine the kind of money this is gonna cost me. Anyho i get a vibration in the stick and a whirring noise when the engine is below 1k RPM. Ive only noticed it at a stop because thats the only time the egine runs that low so as i come to a stop the noise starts. I can hit the gas to bring the engine up and the nose stops, once the idle settles back down the noise returns. From what Ive read this is a sign of a bad TOB. Somthing that also points to this is when if irst got the car i tried roasting the tires and ended up roasting nothing but clutch. At the moment i dont have any shifting issues expect reverse will grind but ive heard that this is because there is no syncro for reverse. Also I can feel the vibration at the engine by just resting my hand on it. It hasnt gotten any worse however i am wondering what i can look out for to determine the true cause of the vibration. Thanks in advanced for a reply

where's the whirling coming from? if its from the back of the car, the fuel pump?
as you're going further under 1k rpm, the closer you are to your car stalling. that could be the vibrations? i never get under 1k rpm unless the engine is bogging (rare occurance). perhaps you need to reset your idle?

(i'm far from a sho know-it-all, so you might want to let others chime in as well :p )

sounds like the face of the TOB has gone away and its rubbing on broken/worn pressure plate fingers. nominal idle is 800RPMs for a manual transmission. if it is difficult to shift from nuetral into 1st, you are in need of a new clutch assembly. another indication of a worn clutch can also be linked to the not so indicative reverse grind.

if you havent tried the clutch adjustment, id suggest that first. using the search feature on the forum for "clutch adjustment." it will lead you to instructions on how to proceed.

to minimize the grind from nuetral to reverse, try shifting into another gear and then reverse in one motion. some suggest a 4th to reverse. i do a 2nd to reverse shift only because its easy to get 2nd in my car.
