wheel problem...

ok...I have a 89 and I have 5 star wheels and they came black, well when I sold the car to someone 2 fix they paintd over the black w/o primer and now the silver is chipping off. What do I need to do to get the wheels ready for a new coat of black???? what type of grit sand-paper should I use if needed???? The paint needs to be blasted using glass bead or a more "aggresive" media. This will give you a nice "bare" wheel which you could then prime/etch/prime/paint all with wheel paint products. I used a Mercedes prime/wheel paint (charcoal) and it has survived three winters so far. I personaly wouldn't powdercoat as I have had chipping-especially the outer rim when mounting dismounting tires. Paint is easy to touch up and then re-do if necessary years later.
