I've been doing alot of research on this topic. I made a list of car's that I would be a good start to autoxing?

99-04 mustang? Come on the aftermarket

98-01 contour svt? It's a mini sho?

I really don't any more car's that fit my style? I really don't have the fund's for another sho? I do but without finding a quailfe. I wouldn't want run a sho without one. And I wish I had a the money for shomesomesho's car. But not at this point.

I want to build this car from the ground up!

If anybody has Idea's one why I shouldn't run any of these car's drop some car's that can be had for acouple of grand. Drop some?

This car will be just a autox car and some day will be a track car only! (No street driving) just to and from.

Thanks for all the help!

Sorry for ask so many question's on this

what class do you want to run in? what kind of weather will you be driving in most of the time?
when building a car "from the ground up" for autox, its very important to know what class you want to end up/stay in, as that will limit a lot of things you can and can't do. subaru STis seem to do very well in STU here, '01 era impreza 2.5s do really well in STS, a mazda 3 with nothing but springs, good street tires, and a good driver does really well in one of the ST categories, a fully prepped 325 bmw kills everything in sight in DSP and/or SM, but only on a warm/dry day. I could be quite competitive in SM with wider wheels and r-comps and coilovers and maybe some more engine work and some more driving experience....

so it comes down to the first two questions before your questions can really be answered. :)

99-04 Mustang is competitive in ESP with some $$ in prep work.

The 05+ GT's are very competitive in FS (less $$ in prep work).

The Contour probably wouldn't be too competitive in it's stock class or any of the ST* classes - too heavy.

For an auto-X only car, I would look at the top cars in the class you want to compete in, and find one of those.

SS - Z06, GT3
AS - S2000, Cayman
BS - RX8
CS - Miata
DS - Integra Type-R, BMW 330
ES - Miata
FS - Mustang GT
GS - Mini
HS - Wide open

STS - EF Civic Si
STX - WRX or 325/328 BMW (E30 or E36)
STU - STi or Evo

ASP - C5 Z06
BSP - Evo
CSP - MR2 Spyder or Miata
DSP - 325/328 BMW
ESP - Mustang or Camaro
FSP - Wide Open

SM - Pretty open, Evo's do very well here
SM2 - RX7, Corvette

more rubber, more HP.....
Yep, I agree, you should choose your car based on the class (or classes) you want to run in.

When choosing a class, you should also take a look at your local autocross results to see how many competitors are in each class. You probably want to choose a class where there are enough people to make it fun.

The other class that deserves mention is Prepared. (SHO's and other American sedans like Camaros, Firebirds, and even Fox & SN-95 Mustangs run in C-Prepared.) This is a class where basically any mod is permitted, except for forced induction. Here you will see dedicated race cars that are gutted, lightened, souped up, running 11-12" wide slicks. If you like to tinker, then this class might deserve your consideration.

Oh, and if you're a Mustang guy. . . FYI the 2007 (and 2006) C-Prepared National Champion did it in a '88 Fox body. :)

Not really a mustang guy, but it's cheap to mod! I just love to tinker. C-Prepared does look good. I'm going to look even more than I was in to this.

Ok well thanks for the input on the mustang.

Looks like the strongest classes are GS,HS,CSP,STS,STS2,SMS. Sms has the strongest with 24 car's. I know that GS is where the svt would be. There's a guy on top with one!

I don't know where the stang would fit in?
