well I have 3 options as to what water pump to get. I swapping in a 3.2L and im trying to decide what to do with my water pump. should I A) replace the water pump gasket and use my 40k mile water pump for free, B) buy a remaned unit for $50 and install that, or C) buy a new one for $180 and use that?

Edit: Also which pump do I use for the 3.2L swap the 3.0L pump or the 3.2L pump? I am using a 3.2L block for the swap not a bored 3.0L.

After giving it some thought, you should probably just go the electric waterpump route. It will solve quite a few cooling issues.

thanks guys im trying to get answers not smart remarks, I haven't had a car for over 3 months because my trans blew and then my engine and im not in the mood to screw around. I really need it in 3 weeks when i go back to school. So the remaned pumps suck? is it really worth that much money for a new one?

Don't get me wrong, in a pinch all i could afford sometimes is a reman for any of my vehicles, and sometimes they last just as long as a new one.(sometimes they don't) if you can afford it go with a new one. if not, don't. there is a possibility that you will be doing it again sooner than not:thumb:

If you don't want to tear the front of the engine down again in the next 6 months to a year, buy the new one. It's worth the money. Because many remans are not SHO specific, they may not be aluminum as is the new unit. This brings expansion rates, tolerances, etc. into play that create leaks. The new unit is also a new COMPLETE pump not just the impeller insert you get with the reman. I've never had a reman last more than 8 months and will never install another one.

The remans I have installed in my car have all lasted longer than the last "new" pump and they come with a lifetime replacement warranty.

to just replace the pump itself is not too bad,im in the process of doing it myself.
heres a good link to the whole front 60k,its recommended that you do all this at once.however if your like me and dont intend on using the engine thats in your car much longer, then just fix whats broken.however if this is for your swap engine then i HIGHLY recommend you buy a new REMAN pump and follow the entire 60K

About 2 hours.

Buy the damn Motorcraft NEW pump - thats what i did, you'll be happy.
Buying a new pump is asinine. We've put, I dunno, 200 or so reman pumps in SHO's over the years, and have yet to see one fail. The rear half of the housing that the pump mounts too is just a simple cast aluminum part with a freeze plug, there's nothing to wear out.

Baloney. Only an SHO pump will work on an SHO, and all the remans out there are remanned OE Aisin pumps.

Any comments on his 2nd question? 3.0 or 3.2?
3 seconds of searching the countless 3.2 swap threads will have this information. It's not like nobody has done this before, all the information is there for anyone who wants to find it out.

:stupid: Get a reman. Not worth shelling out the extra when the cheap one comes with a warranty.
