I recently got silver slicers for my 89. I'm going tomorrow to a local Town Fair Tire to get tires mounted on the wheels and an alignment. What size do I tell the guy I need? Whats the widest tire that will fit?
Thanks!

Thanks for the reply. I just checked tire rack and you were right, the stock size on slicers was 215/60-16. I'll stick with those. thumbs_u

215/60-16 is stock. But 225/55-16 look nice too. I've got those on my 95 MTX. Although you're not gaining that much in width, I just like the more aggressive look of the wider tires.

A couple of issues on going with 225 width tires. Yes with 225, they are wider. But on stock 6"wide slicers, wider is not better. The wider you go on that rim, the more squirm the tires have to go through before turning. And 225/50 16 are great to launch but you will notice a considerable difference in speedo error. It's quicker to rotate but you lose some acceleration up high.

They will be off by 3.1MPH at 60MPH, so by the time the speedo says your going 120MPH :p its actually 126.2MPH.

better check yer math there college boy :) the 50 is has a smaller diameter than the 55, therefore the error will be a higher than actual speed, not lower. Props to you though for bothering to do the math!

215/60-R16 probably are the best to go with. I run Goodyear Regatta II's on mine and they handle pretty good in all weather and agresive driving. Hard to beat $80 a tire that will last 80,000mi.

Eric

P.S. They best way to tell how much off your speedo is with different tire sizes is to set the cruise at a 100mph and let the officer tell you how fast you were going. You know their equipment is acurate. :D

hawk,

that souns like a good idea. I have the 225/55s. When I wear them out I think I'll go with the 60s.

You still don't have it. The 225/50-16 is about 4.97% shorter than the 215/60-16 according to the sidewall specifications, so at an actual 120 mph, the speedometer will show 126 mph. The 225/55-16 is a good fit and much closer to the stock rolling diameter.

so in all this reading, which is exellent, what tire size is about cheapest to run but is still going to give u the acceleration. iam thinking of going with the 225-55-16. almost stock but a good look.

actually, RI, you got it backwards both times. Now put down the crack pipe and go re-read it. :) SHEEEESE!!!!

OK, so maybe it was that spanish moonshine!!! Just remember, shorter side wall equals more money for rim salesman ...uhhhh, I mean higher INDICATED speed.

So, go get some 13/225/35s and tell yer buddies how you can do 0-100 in about 5 seconds. When I lived in TN, guys used to actually put shit like that on their cars. Man was it dumb looking. I think it was a west coast low rider mexican thing.

BTW, I checked out your site. Well done. Tell your friend with the GS that I said it is damn nice. And tell civic dude that he needs a bigger wing wink !!!!

OK Blacky or any one I also have an 89 and am thinking of new wheels for it as they are the originals. Everyone seems to think I should go to the 16 inch slicers or whatever they are called. If I go with the 215/60 16 inch tires on those wheels will they fit ok on my 89? What wheels and tires are you using? Thanks! Mike C

I can't believe people are still "upgrading" to slicers when there's a much better choice for almost as good a price to be had: the Gen3 SHO wheel.

Check it out on my '93.
