This sensor is broken off on both of my engines, so I need a new one, but I haven't got a clue what it's called...

It's got two flat metal prongs sticking out from (what used to be) a plastic shroud, and it's all screwed into the hard metal coolant line that goes back past the rear head to the heater core.

Here's a shot of it on my old engine (on a stand). You're looking from the driver's side, and that's the rear head at the top of the pic:

Anyone? Thanks in advance.

Here are some shots of it after I removed it from the old engine (boogered the flats up pretty bad getting it out):

That's the CELO switch. Cold Engine Lock Out. That's the one that prevents the heater from turning on until the coolant is hot enough.

It is not necessary for engine operation. You'll just have to keep the heater off yourself until the coolant warms up, like on most other cars.

Aha, thanks.

So if I did want to replace it eventually... Where can I get it?

I can't seem to find it at Rockauto, RCM or SHOsource... I suppose I could post a WTB and get a used one, but is it available new from somewhere?

Is it a common Ford part that x-refs to other cars?

Edit: I did a little more searching around the Interwebz, and it seems like it was a part common to 1983 to 1995 Full Size Fords, Lincolns, and Mercurys with EATC, and the part is obsolete. So used is my only option then (assuming I wish to replace it)?

Bingo. Nobody has ever found a new replacement for those. You'd think somebody would make one... but nope.

Oh I will, assuming my local yard doesn't have one first (I know they have a '93 sitting out there, I just don't know if the CELO's intact). I gotta support the local guys first. :)

Ya velcome. Nice book you have that sensor on. I have one like it!
Yeah, a lot of people seem to have that book all of a sudden, huh? ;)

What can I say? I'm a closet socialist.

I'm willing to bet a lot of the n00bs don't know of its existence, though.
