I am coming up on my first oil change on my 2010 SHO. The manual says 5W20 every 7,500 miles. However, the service manager at Ford, who is a friend of a friend and therefore trustworthy, said use full synthetic every 5,000 miles. I plan on doing so. What brand of oil does everyone use? I read somewhere that there are only a few "true" synthetic oils on the market. I was going to stick with motorcraft full synthetic oil, but I am thinking something like Royal Purple might be better. While we're on the subject, what about oil filter? I change my own oil so price is not a factor. :thankyou:

Pennzoil has a Platinum that is getting a lot of press lately - anyone have any experience with it?

I've got a few thousand more miles until my first oil change - and I've always been a Mobil-1 guy. But I'm definitely going to be looking into Amsoil and Royal Purple as well.

Used to use Royal Purple for my tranny fluid years ago on my twin turbo Dodge Stealth and it was incredible how different that car performed with it vs the regular stuff, so I'm thinking I'm going to try their motor oil on my new SHO.

I use the Platinum in my 2006 Expedition 5w20. So far it seems to be working just fine. I use 5w30 Mobil 1 in my 2013. Mainly because I also use the same exact oil in my 2002 Corvette.

I have been using Mobil 1 in all my vehicles for years, not saying it's the best but I have a 95 SHO pushing 340k with original motor and transmission and both have had Mobil 1 in them for years. That being said any full synthetic oil is what you want to use.

I use Motocraft since I get the oil changes done at my dealer as a Prepaid. Motocraft Synthetic blend is the default oil, if I want to pay $20 per change I can upgrade to full synthetic. If I moved away from my dealer and had to do myself I would strongly consider Mobil 1 or possibly Royal Purple. I watched a segment on Power Block recently on the production, distribution and testing of R/P.

I use Amsoil 0W-30 Signature Series Motor Oil and WIX Filters. I only change mine out once a year... Sent off an oil sample to a testing lab after running it for a year and they told me I could get another 20K out of the oil.. the oil had 18K on it....

I used them on a referral from one of my Durango Owners Club peeps and they were good. Easy to take the sample and easy to send. Results both Email and paper copy in a pretty reasonable turn around time. Interestingly enough the whole almost eight years I lived in Indiana I never heard of them.

For those of you that might try Blackstone Labs especially those that have their oil change done at dealer, Jiffy ****, Valvoline Instant Oil Change etc....... Grab a catch container like a clean 1/2 to 1 quart for the sample. A container that you don't mind sacrificing for the greater good. They can give mineral content and make note of excessive or pending oil breakdown preferably before your on the side of the road at either 9 or 90 Degrees F.

I stay away from Royal Purple since I hear good things and then so really not so good things about it.

Mobil 1 goes in pretty much all of my personal cars I've owned.

Motorcraft synthetic blend 5W-20 always goes in my Town Car. I've seen fleets of Town Cars go over 200,000 miles on the stuff...

I use amsoil W5-20, but I am changing it every 7,500 just as the book said. even though I know just like you are saying shomeda where it can last for thousands more.

Back in the 90's when I worked in Detroit, GM took 10 Corvettes with Mobil 1 and ran them around a track for 150,000 miles. Five they changed the oil every 5,000 miles, five they changed at 15,000 miles. At the end they disassembled all ten engines and saw no significant difference in wear.

Castrol full synthetic makes the car run just right. Change every 4k miles. Dealer uses it and I get to keep my engine for life guarantee as long as they are replacing it...
