Only 1 thing Ron, I had the Contour at Gingerman in the Spring. Car handled well but had no balls on a road course. Maybe two.. At Putnam I Had Kumhos 712's the tire you love to hate.

:snicker: I passed you coming out of the shoot, down the main straight, before the mmms, after the mmms:wave: That car is very awesome! if you had track rubber Im sure you would **** me! Thanks for not buying any:hail:

Both are larger. I keep forgetting the sizes, but the factory bars are tubular (hollow), as are the Cobb bars I'm getting. Cobb rates the fronts as 50% stiffer than stock, and the rears (2-way adjustable) are 195% and 215% stiffer.

The sizes are something like 19/17mm stock, and 23/21mm Cobb, but I don't recall exactly. They recommend going with the set. In the Subie world, the actual diameters don't seem to be a hot topic of conversation. One thing is that some of the aftermarket bars are solid, so it's apples-to-oranges versus hollow bars.

The car leans a lot. Flattening out both the rear and the front will help, especially the torture that I inflict on the LF.

FWIW, I have gotten over my FWD (SHO) driving & car setup habits, and have gotten the AWD thing "down" much better. Putnam was my first track event with it last year. My "benchmark" has been running with Kirk and his red car. He easily had me at Putnam, was a hair better at the Fall Gingerman meet. At the Spring Gingerman, I was passing him. He now has track rubber. He was passing everyone in Advanced at Memphis, but he was just slowly pullling out on me, and a lot of it was in the Turn 1 carousel wth the long left turn where his tires would really help.

I don't hate the 712s, but I woud never buy them, as they are too f-in heavy (as are about all of Kumhos street tires). Even for the cheap price, that's an unacceptable trade-off to me. I buy similarly-priced tires that weigh 21-22 #s, rather than 25-27 #s.

The tire mfrs have really come around on performance tires, as there is now a great selection of good silica-compound performance tires in the $100-and-under range (in the common sizes).

Anything but Michelins ,They are only good for making truck tires.

Very hard rubber , the bead is uber hard as well (10x times harder to put it on the wheel , therefor , more chances to damage the edge of the wheel when installing.)

Good quality : Toyo - Yokohama. (not cheap)

The performance Michelin tires are fine, it's just that they are overpriced for what you get. Same with Goodyear, although Goodyear is getting better on their newer tires (price-wise).

I just went through a set of Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2s that I loved. Great on the street and the track. It's just that they were $163/each for new ones (I got a great deal at $100/each the first time around), and there were other tires as good in the $80-$100 range.

Being a former mechanic , i really disliked them due to the stiffness of the beads , VERY hard to put them on the rims.

I took rides in them , and if you have rough roads (like us in Quebec) the ride will be stiffer too.

Question of taste id guess.
