What is the part called that goes from the end of the front sway bar to the strut tower? What effect does this part have on the suspension and what kind of problems would you expect to notice if they are defective?

Should I replace these before I get an alignment, and is there a good aftermarket replacement?

Those would be the sway bar endlinks. On the Gen 1s they were steel, but on the Gen 2s Ford used HD plastic ones (I think), which are lighter and stronger. I think the fittings on the plastic ones are greasable, but I'm not sure; I have a '90 myself, and I don't know much about the newer endlinks. You can do a Forum search on swaybar endlinks, if you're still curious.

They are called sway bar end links. They are non-greaseable and have no effect on alignment. If your car still has the original steel links, and they are worn out, your car will have a very loud clunk going over bumps etc.Ford replaced them with a redesigned H.D.white nylon type #F4DZ-5K484-A,$45.00ea.GOOD LUCK!!!
