I don't about Orion these days (I haven't kept up) but back in the day they were among the best. But then again you never know, audio companies have phases. Soundstream is a good example. They were great 10 years ago then they had a bunch of problem years almost went bankrupt and now they're back. Hifonics used to be one of the best when their boards were designed by Zed Audio. Now they appear to be a cheap fleamarket brand. I remember when Audiobahn came out. They were famous for lots of chrome and lots of overrated amps and subs.

Anyway, you should match the amp to the subs. If you buy the Orion amp you'll want to get a 1 ohm load to get the most out of the amp. That can be done with four 4 ohm subs in parallel or three 3 ohm subs. Throw in dual voice coil subs and it can get tricky for a newbie. With that Audiobahn amp you'll want either a 4 ohm or 2 ohm final load. You could do 4 ohms with the amp bridged or 2 ohms on each channel in stereo.

Another factor is that the Orion is going to be more efficient than the Audiobahn amp because it is class D whereas the Audiobahn amp is class AB.

It's going to be tough to build a big system when you're trying to go cheap on the amps. I'll be interested to see what works out for you though. Also, I would go with the Orion.

Agreed on the Orion. I had Audiobahn amps running my subs and mids/highs in my 93 ATX. Back when I bought them, they were great, but now I see where **** shops are selling Audiobahn amps new (as distributors) with really cheap prices. You get what you pay for!
