I'm tired of all the bumping and thunking from my RH rear strut, and i'm replacing them; my question is, what all do I need? It's got Tokico struts all around right now, but i'm going back to stock; i don't track the car, so handling is less important than comfort.
Since the gist I get from the community is that rear struts are a PITA to do, should I do the springs too while i'm in there? Stock springs, or aftermarket? As far as I know, they are original. New strut mounts maybe? Midwestsho has 'performance' mounts, are they any good? And as far as the manual goes, they say i need washers, pinch bolts, mount-to-body nuts, shaft nuts, etc?
Basically, i'm looking for the perfect balance between not having to do the job again for something else that's broke, and not spending a thousand dollars. If you couldn't tell, i don't do suspension work.
The car is a 94 MTX, with 90k, with tokico struts all around from before I got it. as far as everything else, i'm guessing it's stock.

Any recommendations for products to get or pitfalls to avoid are greatly appriciated.

I would do the Strut/Spring assembly along the strut mount, strut rod to body bushings, strut rod to knuckle bushings, and maybe a brake job while I'm in there. Get the moog bushings, they are much harder than the stock rubber so the ride will degrade a little bit but the increase in handling offsets that by a nice margin.

Alan, whenever I do a suspension swap, I always plan on:

• Struts
• Springs
• Rear Strut Mounts
• Front Mounts / Bearing Plates
• Pinch Bolts
• Rear Swaybar Endlinks

Optional, depending on the car:
• Front Swaybar endlinks
• Front Strut Rod Bushings (check for subframe collar being intact)
• Lower Control Arms
• Outer Tie Rod Ends
• Rear Strut Rod Bushings (chassis & brake side)

A lot of Moog's stuff is TPR, which is much more rigid than rubber. Poly is a nice compromise, but usually squeaks down the road.

The suggestion to look at your brakes while in there is a good one, specifically the brake hoses - you're staring at them, with everything pulled apart. You may also consider replacing the subframe bushings as well.

that sounds really....expensive :frown: I'll just take it out of the maserati fund, or stop throwing my money away at the casino or something.

Are there any important lessons to be learned before I learn them the hard way?

thanks again for the help
