So.. it's not quite a whine, but it's like the start of a whine, if that makes any sense.

It happens when a either take a sharp turn (either side) or a big long turn (where enough force is going to either side).

The sound is coming from the front, so it makes me wonder what is making the sound. I just replaced the tie rods (inner and outer), but could it in any way being the Steering rack?

Can CV joints cause this kind of a sound?

Thanks.

high pitched or low pitched? jack up the front of your car, grab the front tires and try to wiggle em around. you're feeling for play. play in the top and bottom of the wheel's going to indicate a bad wheel bearing, which tends to make an unearthly squealing noise on turns.

I have tried that and there is no movement at all. Originally I thought it was a wheel bearing too.. but I wonder if it could maybe be the power steering pump?

It's been really cold out and it likes to whine on a cold start before it gets warmed up and it makes about the same pitch? I just need to know if that's it before I go replacing it.

My pump whines when it is cold and on long turns too. I got a turkey baster, sucked out the old fluid, put in royal purple power sterring fluid every week for about two months. Works great and the whine is greatly reduced. Quick cheaper fix before you go replacing parts.

Got a whine, too. Usually there when cold start. Then goes way when the car warms up. Comes back during hard turns. Kind of like alternator whine...

I cleaned the power steering reservoir and put some new ATX fluid it and the affects were immediate. No more whining and it's been 2 weeks since then and still no whining.

The old fluid was still red, but not bright red, so it must've just been contaminates.

I did the same thing this weekend. Worked great. I read somewhere (maybe here) that someone used Royal Purple. So, that's what I did. Sucked all the stuff out of the res, and topped it off, took about 10 oz.
