I am about to purchase a gen2 SHO from a tow yard that towed my SHO there. These guys are really cool, as I am getting the car dirt cheap, and could probably part it out and get more money then selling the whole car but we will see what happens. Anyway they don't have the keys for it and I was wondering who or how I would go about rekeying the thing. Any advice on this kind of situation?

I had the same problem. Check on Ebay, post a wanted ad here and on shoclub.com, or check with salvage yards for a donor car. Remember for the square key you'll need both lighted door locks and ignition. And for the round key you'll need the trunk lock, glove box and floor release locks. I found mine on Ebay, two seperate autions. Be patient it may take some time.

if you have the proof of ownership, i have heard that you can go to the dealer with the VIN # and they can get one.

I will be getting a salvage title for the car I think. I am getting the car pretty cheap and plan on flipping it for a small profit to pay for some upgrades for my other SHO's.

I ended up driling out the ignition cylinder. Its in the Chilton what size of bit to use. I actually did it a little better and stepped up the sizes from ~1/4" or so.... Then I got a full lockset from one of the guys here.

actually, no they cannot. I inquired when I changed the doors on my car. I was going to try and make a 'hybrid' key so that I could still have one key for the ignition and doors.

No. He is talking about and ENTIRE lockset. Ignition, doors, glovebox, trunk.

Im in the same boat. The project SHO didnt come with ANY keys. Im thinking about just installing a remote keyless entry, and using a pushbutton ignition  :laugh_ti:

In my findings glovebox locks aren't keyed. Try any old ford key you have around, dunno which style (ignition or door/trunk style) would fit in. All it would use is the shape of the key hitting a stop in the "cylinder" allowing it to turn. I remember with the many T-Birds & Mustangs I've parted they weren't keyed. Also if you buy the stuff from Napa they wont be keyed alike... Try a WTB here or when you see someone parting one out give them a shout, it'll be alot cheaper.

oh, thank you for the update, i remember someone saying that they had ordered a set by the VIN #, but i guess not anymore, or not for this car...ok good to know.

p.s. i know how to get the ignition keyed part out of the column...but damn you need a key!!!!

n/m, unless you find a way to turn the ignition to the run position, then there is a hole undernieth that you stick a pin in and you can pull the section of ignition out.

Why not try someplace like Van's or something? I'm not sure if they're a national chain or anything but all they do is go around n red vans fixing locks and keys. When I bought a SHO recently the used car dealer had lost the set of keys. He called up Ford with the VIN# to get a set of keys. They only sent him the square ignition key on a keychain with the little metal tag and they gave him the keypad #. The key starts the car as well as opens the doors. The oval one opens the glovebox, trunk and trunk release button lock inside the car. He didn't know this and thought it only worked the ignition so I was able to drive it but he wanted me to be able to have a whole set of keys. So he calls up Van's and they put in new door locks, and keyed them to my ignition key. Then they put in a new trunk lock and made a key to match from the keyhole to the trunk release lock cylinder next to my seat. So now I have the 2 keys, they all match what they're supposed to, and they all originally match the VIN. I'm sure there's a fee as they are basically locksmiths but I know they can actually make keys from scratch for your car through examining the existing locks.

I also called Ford and you can indeed give them your VIN and they'll give you only the square ignition/door key around here but they will tell you it only works for the ignition to thwart any dumb would-be thieves out there. It takes about a couple days for them to get it. I ordered a second set of keys this way.
