Hi all. I am looking for techniques people have used to rotate their car. With my current set up I have to put quite a bit of left foot braking effort in to get my back end to come around and was wondering about other ways to do it. I could raise my rear tire pressure some to reduce grip, but then I would have to worry more about the rear in transition and off camber situations. Currently my car is very planted in slaloms and in fast sweepers it will drift sideways, but the back does spin. My suspension set up is as follows...
Koni/intrax, sfc, asfb, 26/20 sway bar combo and a wavetrac. All bushings have been replaced and I have 96 brakes. I have also removed about 200lbs from the car. Would bias plugs help? I currently have the bias valve zip tied up and am running 225/50r16 star specs. Just looking for some in site from the autox veterans.

just the rears. At least thats always been my understanding

I may have it backwards then. I always thought that having the rear stiff and the front not made it easier to break the back end loose. Kinda like a big rear sway bar and a small front one.

A smaller front bar and larger rear bar would help too.

I am currently running a 26 in the rear and a 20 up front. I could disconnect my front before the next event. With a wavetrac would this be needed?

The way you listed it, I read it as a 26 front 20 rear.

Seat time. :thumb:

Technique development just takes time.

Yeah, I defiantly need more of that. From not racing over the winter I feel like I took steps backward. I am along ways from the days when I used to celebrate being last by less though.

I'm gonna try and get some of the good guys to codrive with me so I can ride along in my car with them driving. Should give me something to shoot for. Now I just need to invest in some cones and find a really big parking lot.

Yeah, when I went back and looked I released I listed it backward.:nut:

Man, if it was set up like that it would want to turn at all.

Id say try one run with the front bar disconnected and see how it feels. Not sure how it would affect the diff - if any - but its worth a try. Just be ready for unpredictable over steer.

So just unhook the end links from the sway bar, or do I want to remove the end links all together so they aren't flopping around?

Small Front bar, Large rear bar and Technique!

In my car, suddenly letting off the throttle and a little flick of the wheel will easily get the rear end going. I've also found that that applying a little brake right as I enter a corner can get the rear end to come out as well.

Be careful tho! You it can very easily work against you!

In this video, You can see (and listen) how on the first corner I got the rear end to come loose. During the slalom, you can also see how was to rough on the throttle inputs unsettling the car and causing it to spin, then Finally a clean run.

What's your alignment like? Shoot for more traction up front and less in the rear. My 92 would come around just letting off the gas in a turn and the setup wasn't too much different than my 95 and the 95 is more nuetral, but can rotate the ass end when needed (but doesn't get away from you).

As far as Koni adjustments, I'd go full stiff in the rear (no ****). I also turn it down in the front a bit.

Alignment is -2.25 up front, -1.25 in back. Zero toe and positive caster. I'll soften up the front a little and experiment with some trail breaking into the corners.

Trail braking. A little toe-out in the back can help, but that's a tradeoff and I'd leave for later.

Yeah. I think I'm going to focus on driving technique before I start changing things on the car. I may try adjusting the front koni's between runs for a science experiment.

It's been a few years since I've run in an Auto-X, but there is one solid rule I remember. You can try all the adjustments you want, but until you reach the point of consistent driving, you'll just keep chasing your tail(literally and figuratively). Work on the driving techniques first, then work on the car. :salute:
