93 ATX SHO with 168K on it. Strange water leak activity. I have no leak regardless
how hot the day is, however, after the engine is cool (8 hours) while parked, water
will drip from the timing belt area. I guess the water pump is bad but I do not understand
why it only leaks when cool. With a water leak at the pump does the timing belt need
to be changed? I replaced the belt about 30K back.

I had the same problem. It would leak when it cooled down, and only when it cooled down. I just replaced the water pump this past weekend. I noticed the lower weep hole had water marks on it indicating that it was leaking. So far no more leaking problems. I looked at the timing belt when I had it off, and it looked fine. My was leaking for a few months, and I just replaced the water pump, runs better than ever! thumbs_u

The timing belt covers have baffles that keep the coolant away from the timing belt and the CPS. The path for the drain comes out below the crankshaft damper. If there is coolant at this drain port then the water pump or water pump-to-block O-ring is leaking. I have never seen the O-ring leak, but it is possible.

I suggest a remanufactured pump form A1 Cardone (even though there is a post about a premature failure) through a local auto parts store. This gets you a much less expensive part, a lifetime warranty, quick and easy access to the new part and a rapid return on the core charge.
