If you remember some of my other posts you will know that I took my valve cover seals and plug well seals from my black SHO and put them on the plus. They had around 5K miles on them so I thought it would be no problem. Now I have a huge leak coming from the back of my engine and it is dripping on the exhaust and smoking. I took it all apart for a second time and found the same thing to be happening. Here is the kicker, I did use the valve covers off my old SHO and only the rear one leaks. So I'm thinking either my head is warped or my rear valve cover is warped. Also, there was some smoke caused from oil leaking on the exhaust before I even touched the car which makes me worried that it might be the rear head that is warped. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks.

Do you still have the other valve covers? Did you use rtv? I would try the other valve cover and some rtv before I took the heads off. I guess you also have extra heads?? That would really be handy. Although if you removed the heads you would need a new upper gasket set unless you can get the head gaskets individually. Get that torque wrench yet? Sounds like you'll need it soon. wink

I am going to use the original valve cover for the rear since the front fits fine and does not leak. I did find out that it is indeed the rear valve cover which is leaking. I have my torque wrench too. :)

I had that problem the first time I put new gaskets on the rear cover, turned out that that harness back there kept pushing the gasket off the cover, causing it to leak. I ended up duct taping everying away from the rear cover, then seating it on the head. Good luck.

Is the cam cover gasket seated correctly? If it's been pinched, it'll leak, and the rear is a bummer to get on there correctly.

If you didn't remove it, take off / fold back the fuel rail banjo on the driver's side of the rails to aid in placing the cover without rolling the gasket out of the track in the cover.

Do you use a hi-tack gasket sealer to help hold the gasket in it's groove when you replace the cover? I used that stuff at the recommendation of my bike mechanic on my old CB750F. It works great.

I have put it all back together and won't know anything until tomorrow. I can 100% guarantee that the valve cover seal is seated on there correctly. This is the 3rd time I have done it in 2 days and it better work. Although, the first two times were with the other valve cover because I thought the lip got tucked or folded under. I'll keep everyone updated and hopefully it will all work out.

Well, Fred said it a lot better than me, but anyway...it took me three or four times to do it right. It is a true PITA. Good luck.
