Has anyone installed this onto their 2010/2011 SHO yet? Looking at getting it installed but wanted to see how it worked first.

Thanks

I installed the Ford system for push button start (I bought it from the parts department and installed it myself. If you go that route I can answer any questions you may have on that....) Since we have push button start cars, the car HAS to stall when you open any door or the trunk because anyone could just jump in and drive away otherwise.

Installed last week. The installer had a few issues to workout with Directed (the mfg of SmartStart). According to them the wiring from the 10 and 11 are different. Other then the stumbler during the install the remote start system is working fine using the iPhone app.

I have a Viper 5901 2-way responder Security System/Remote Start that is Smart Start capable in a couple of my cars.....I just decided to use the Ford system on this car....

How did they wire it? When you open the door does the car quit?

You must step on the brake within 45 seconds of opening the door. One note when remote starting the system goes though a sequence of locking and confirming doors are shut before the system starts. This way all the doors are locked and someone just cant jump in and drive.

If you step on the brake within 45 seconds the car will stay running? If not, the car quits after 45 seconds? Is that right? This way jumping in would only get you 45 seconds away?

Or when you get in....you step on the brake and if the key is present it stays running (doesn't seem like that would work because the alarm doesn't look for the key...the car does prior to the start sequence)....if not it quits when you step on the brake? and if you do nothing within 45 seconds it quits?

I'm interested in the exact sequence of events and the effects of what happens if you punch in the unlock code while leaving your key in the house and try to take off.

I'm curious as to the same questions you asked. You just beat me to it. :nut:

The scenarios I've tried so far

App start/key in pocket/ unlock door using remote/open door/step on brake within 45sec-Stayed running.

App start/key in pocket/unlock door using remote/open door/do not apply brake-Shutdown in 45sec.

App start/key not in range/window down to access open the door(really didn't want to simulate breaking in) unlock-Shutdown immediately.

Now remember an embedded key needs to stay in the car. This by itself will not enable the car to start. Does this answer everything?

Thanks for the info, I was curious if a key needs to be in the car to use the starter. Not sure how my wife will feel about that in Boston;)

The key is buried in a box and the battery is removed and only powered up with a power supply pellet when the starter engages.....Otherwise it has no power source and is "not present" to the car....

Have it installed correctly with a bypass kit and you wont have that problem.

The Ford unit comes with the key and box. Normally what you said is correct, but I don't think the current bypass modules work on the SHO. I have bypass kits in other cars, ie, Directed Electronics PKALL 700....
