valve shims

You guys sure you can flip over these valve shims? I got some with damage on the shiny side. The other side with the size on it is tarnished not shiny.Should I look for new shims or is the OK to flip.Thanks

I have fliped the ones in my own car and it still runs fine. There is no issue with flipping them, just make sure you clean the spot off the bottom before putting them to use. You will see it when you take it out.

The shims are the same on both surfaces except for the printed thickness number. Both sides are fine to use as the contact surface for the cam lobe. If the lower face has bulidup on it, rub it with a shop rag and solvent to remove as much of the film as possible from the center 1cm only. Just be sure to coat the shim with motor oil on the upper surface of any shim when you install it.

Or better yet, engine assembly ****...it's not as runny and can sit there for a longer period of time while you turn the cams by hand to get at the OTHER shims.

Flipping a shim is OK. When re-installing a shim I always have a small container of fresh motor oil that I dip the shim in & the compressor tool as I use them. AND while your in there, remove & dis-assemble the Cam Chain Tensioners!
Chain tensioners are VERY Important to the **** of the complete valve train on each head! Oil is pumped up into the CT(chain tensioner) from the bottom through a small hole. Oil fills CT & lifts & then sprays oil on the the valve train through another small hole at the top just below the pad. If CT is sticking it will reduce oil needed to **** valve train=(cam caps,cam lobes,shims, buckets & valve stem.) When removing CT & cleaning make SURE you put the pad post back in with the hole facing toward valve train!
