Hi all,
I inatalled my TriFlows and have an issue. All of my valve clearances are with specs except 1. It is the far right exhaust valve on the rear head. I tried it with the smallest shim I have (2375) and the clearance is .006. I pulled the lash cap on that bucket and tried my thickest shim (2675) and the clearance was huge. 2 questions:
1. What is the smallest shim I can get...I am going to contact a local Yamaha dealer to try and get the right one.
2. How would running the engine with this valve out of specs effect the engine (if I cant find the right shim)? I know the TriFlows make it an interferance engine.....would running an exhaust valve with .005-.006 clearance hurt something?

It's supposed to be .010, 4 thousandths too tight isn't that bad. A lot of guys who haven't done their 60k are running shims more out of spec than that.

Shims are available all the way down to 2000 though, so the range is wide enough to get you in spec. You could always pull the exhaust valve and take a few thou off the tip of it too.

thanks, my biggest concern is "With interferance cams will this hurt my engine?". If not I will button it up and then go to a Yamaha dealer on tuesday to get ones that can get me in specs. Its weird that I could get every valve in spec except 1....grrr

The only thing it will hurt , is that if your timing belt snaps or skips alot of teeths.

Remember at the yamaha dealer if you need a 2600 , call it a 260 , and they only come in increments of 50 , not 25 like our shims go.

Success! found the shim I needed at a local bike store. They just swapped me for a different size shim at no charge.

cool , we need a sound clip when its running !

Will do. Should be running today or tommorrow. I'll also post a dyno graph after I get that done.....I know there have been a few questions as to what to expect from these cams. I hit 203whp without them....hoping for a substantial improvement.

I have about 5000 shims in stock, not sure what i have on the thin side but I know I have 2775's and maybe 2800's figure out what you need and let me know.. Ill look for thin shims too later today.. best way to remind me would be an email.

I've got a couple 2000's as well. They help when you install new cams and need to find out what the gap is/what size you need.

I never seen them on SHO SOURCE's site, are those yours or James? I would think that if you were advertising them that they would be on SS's site and not super ford..
