has anyone here tried to do any work on the back side of the engine? i'm gonna be replacing the valve cover gasket on the left hand side, and i'd like to take a look at the right side too if i can since i have several days to work on it anyway. it looks like a pain in the ass to get to though. any tips on how to deal with it? thanks.

Yes, you need to take the surge tank and intake runners off. Actually not the runners but it is easier with everything out of the way. When you put it back together move the ground strap to the upper bolt on the rear passenger side surge tank support.
