I am currently in the process of getting my very first SHO. it is a 1992. however, the valve cover gaskets need replaced. I have never worked on a SHO so im fairly naive to the maitenence on them. so if someone could possibly tell me the process i have ahead of me and what exactly i need to do i would really appreciate it. i am fairly mechanically inclined but im more used to building carburated small blocks.

Welcome, I've got two 92's, a white/black and silver/black. There is a ton of info on this site as well as the Shophoenix project site, see link below. I don't think I would have gotten into SHO's without the knowledge and help on this forum. Either the search function or the link below (go to maintenance section and then the Upper 60K section that will show you how to do valve cover gaskets.

Welcome. I just did V/C gaskets. on my sho a few weeks ago (Along with Big Bore Butterflys, Ported and Polished Intake and runners, Powdercoated intake, while i was there i did a cat-less y-pipe, highly recommended ) But nonetheless, it took me 10Hours for all of it. But that was with assembling the new intake, and taking it off twice(A sparkplug tube seal fell off when i tuned it over, and didnt notice)
But anyways take the whole upper intake off as one piece. Take the brakets OFF the back and front, and the TB off along with the vacume hoses and coolant hoses. then it will all come off. Its a 5mm Hex for the valve cover bolts(16 tottal) Be sure to replace your inake manifold gaskets as well. DO NOT REUSE ANY GASKETS. Also buy NEW silicone intake tubes, i didnt and HIGHT regret not doing so i have a few vacuum leaks.

No prob. It is pretty simple. Take your time. These cars can be a PITA. P.S DO NOT i repeat DO NOT over tighten the V/C bolts, the break very easily, i broke one off in the head. cause i tourqed it to 25ish Ft. lbs(I think my Tq. Wrench is off a little.)

intake-to-head gaskets are very much re-useable.

if you disassemble the intake, don't tighten the hose clamps on the couplers until AFTER you've got the intake set back on the heads.

valve cover bolts are torqued to in/lbs....i've found that once the bolts snug down, another 1/4 to 1/2 turn'll do it.

last but not least, have patience. Don't rush it. And be careful putting the rear valve cover on, cuz the gasket might snag and pull out of it's channel causing a leak.

Sorry yes i meant inch/lbs.
On a side note. The Gaskets may be reusable, but they are more than likely 19+ Years old. SO why not spend an extra 40Bucks and get new ones and also get butterfly gaskets too.
Just my .02
