I have just torqued down my valve cover bolts. I used the directions as provided by Scott P. Scott does not mention that the thread of the bolts should be lightly oiled when the Helm's manual says they should.

Has anyone run into a problem with NOT oiling the bolts prior to their installation?

I had no problem when i didn't oil my bolts. I'm going to oil my bolts next time i take my valve cover's off. If you already have them on, i wouldn't worry about it. If they're not on i'd oil them.

Markus,

What the Helm is referring to is the SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) Standard for any bolt that requires torquing, that is clean lightly oiled threads. You can accimplish the same standard with a little anti-sieze compound.

As long as you did not break any bolts you did not hurt anything. Corrosion will not be a factor with all the oil arround the bolts. rangerj
