You will need the valve adjustment tools, feeler gauge and worksheet from www.shotimes.com. If your cams are in good condition and the valves are not far out of spec, you can just flip your exisiting shims as they are double-sided. Be sure to check and recheck before you put everything back together. Also stuff the oil return holes in the cylinder heads to avoid dropping tools / parts into the block.

If you PM me I can send you a step-by-step procedure for the valve gap adjustment service including the dis- and reassembly. It includes that critically important plugging of the oil return holes.

The noise made by the valvetrain when the gaps are out of spec is more of a ticking or tapping sound from the top of the engine - not a knocking sound. A knock is characteristically generated by worn connecting rod bearings. You should locate the source of the sound with a mechanic's stethescope before digging into the valvetrain. They can be bought for cheap at Harbor Freight or Northern Tools.

My thoughts exactly!
