I bought the car with all dealer service records from day one (the guy even recorded gas fill-ups - Not that I care). No mention of valve adjustment in any of the records.

I just completed the valve adjustment (thanks to Shonut getting me the parts quick). I went on the tight side of the intake and exhaust clearences to help with a ticking noice I have been having. I found 6 gaps that were above the allowed range (too much gap) The tick is there but seems to be less(could be imagining). It Really sounds like it is coming from the fuel rail. I had 94 MTX that never made the sound (I think). What do you guys think?

Also when I went to loosen one of the rear valve cover bolts it was not tight. When I installed the cover back it will not tighten up snug just keeps turning. What do you guys think?

I really had a tough time with that back cover but it seems like it seated well. I used Ultra Gray Permatex on the corners and plug seals. I also forgot the coolant directly under the TB. I had to remove the IAB to fix it.

I couldn't have done any of this work without shoforum.com. You guys are good!

Thanks,
Scott

That valve cover bolt that wouldn't torque? That is most likely due to stripped threads inthe aluminum head. You will need an M6 Heli-Coil (or other brand) thread repair kit to install a steel thread in the drilled out and tapped hole. I needed to repair several locations on the back bank in my own engine. Lesson from that effort? Set the torque wrench twice. Torque once.

The RTV on the valve cover and plug well gaskets usually doesn't have much affect on oil leakage. Only new gaskets at $72 from AutoZone.com will correct that.

You'll remember that hard to see coolant hose next time, won't you?

Scott,

There is no lesson learned on my part. I know the drill.

I should send your comments to the Ford Dealership who did the work previously! :D

Thanks,

Please forgive my incorrect assignment of the thread shedding. Torque wrenches are still our friends and I wonder how many shops actually use them.

It angers me enough that they don't even peform the required service that the Ford Manual lists.

And to think the postal service has problems with people going "postal"

Thanks for your input Scott, it is welcomed, needed and appreciated!

But that would mean they would actually have to look up the torque specs! :D :p

You'll know if the back valve cover seal was seated properly, because if it wasn't then your SHO would be smoking pretty good at a stop.
