13-16 yr old cars subject to blown motors...not a whole lot of us left these days.

But yeah, I bought mine 2 yrs ago and this is the best info/discussion source I've found.

ok, thanks, I understand these are quite rare cars. Kinda makes you think one day they will return as highly valuable, but maybe not.
I purchased a trashed one with good engine, and I'm doing a swap of the sho v8 into another car, but I'm quite concerned about the lack of parts, even used ones, if/when I blow up the motor.

Mostly I need to find a 5-speed to use with it, the info I've found is sketchy.
I gather a Ford Contour w/2.5/3.0 v6 will work with some effort, at least the flywheel bolts up. I can make transadapter if needed, would rather not if possible. What other FWD 5-speeds can handle the power of the engine?

Get with Kirk at NESHO....on the 5 speed swap, as almost all of it is custom, there is no straight bolt in 5 speed for the V8 cars (I could only wish)

right, but this isn't going into a taurus. I'm a heavy fabricator (and my parts store is the junkyard, not Summit! :), but I know how much time it takes to do things, and starting with something that at least mates up to the engine will be a big time saver.

I know there was a swap with a mazda trans that was done also (search the forums)....as for the contour trans...I am sure you would need an adapter, the same with if you used the V6 SHO trans, the reason why it was used was for being able to use off the shelf parts...but since that no longer matters...go for what you can find. As for what is going to hold together, that is a diffrent story. Good luck though as you go forward on this.
