I think that I may take my 96, and do the big V8 swap into my 95 MTX. I know that the subframes will bolt up, but as far as transmissions, what Mazda manual transmission will work? What will the main problems be? What modifications will need to be done to my 95 or the 96 subframe/engine to make it work? Thanks in advance

I think the MTX-75 transaxle fits the v8......... what all you have to do for the clutch setup I have no clue..........

good things about the MTX-75 compared to the SHO transmission.. supposedly its slightly stronger... there are a couple different final drive ratios you can choose.... and if you want a quaife..... its a few hundred bucks cheaper then the one for the SHO tranny..........

if your lucky the stock y-pipe from the v8 will bolt up to your existing catback....... if not I wouldn't imagine there is that much to mod.......

the main problem I see here is wiring........ OBD-II engine into an OBD-I car can spell trouble.......

this is not going to be an easy, cheap, or fast swap........ Im not trying to sway u away from doing it, but just be prepared........

you would be MUCH better off either modifiying the v6 95 to be faster, or swapping a 5 speed into the 96 v8..........

I'd personally rather have the v6 anyhow.....

I saw a video of a Gen II with a Gen II engine in it, and have wanted one ever since. I already have both cars, so I saw it as a fun project. I think that the 3.4 would be loads of fun with a manual transmission. The existing clutch setup in the 95 would make it easier than adding all that to the 96 to make it a manual.

There is someone converting their GenIII to manual. Check out V8sho.com and see what he's using as far as tranny and whatnot. There should be an email adddy to contact Scott on there too. IIRC he had to use custom axles and a Mazda tranny.

The guy is using a Mazda 6 manual tranny for the manual swap. It fits much better then the MTX-75.

As far as the axels go, is there not a plug and play axel swap that will work? Is something custom really needed?

According to the way Scott is doing his that's how he had to do it. I don't know what those cost. If you track him down you can ask him. He can be found easily on the v8sho email list.
