I have Michelin Pilot XGT V4 on mine. They're V-rated and wouldn't go any lower than this speed rating.
If money is an issue, check out the Kuhmos. They're supposed to cheap and a decent performer.
The speed rating has very little to do with grip.

Not always true. Many times you get a vastly different compound when jumping from V rated to a higher rating. The original GT+4 was a dog of a tire in H rating. Many may complain but I always liked the grip of the GT+4 V rated on slicers. boink

Check out Tire Rack and Discount Tire on the internet. You can check the shipping costs before you order and they almost always beat local prices. You can use the Tire Rack Search by Size to get a list of choices in the different price and performance ranges for your car. For the 6" wide, original equipment slicers, the 225/55-16 size in V-Z ratings will give you a good fit, accurate speedometer and a significant number of choices. Compare the tires with the survey results and their tests. Shop away. Tires are the single greatest contributor to the handling capabilities of any car. Don't be cheap on your choice.

The Z rated GT+4 easily had the stiffest sidewall of any 215/60 16 tire on the market in the mid-90's. Maybe ultimate bite wasn't the greatest attribute but turn-in was the best of any tire I had on those weak-ass slicers our beloved SHOs came with. boink
