Ignition switch to run position, everything comes on fine and does it's thing.

Ignition to start position, battery acts like it's directly shorted across the two terminals.

Occational moments when driving the whole electrical system seems to go dead.

I'm assuiming there's a large short somewhere in the system, but can't find it.

Replaced starter and two main battery cables recently, but all appears to be fine with both.

Where else do I look? My car is currently stranded in town.

Mine goes dead like that now and then.. seems to be related to the battery cables.. for now, I just take the terminals off of the battery, count to 20, put them back on, positive first, and it starts right up

have the battery tested. My Mom's SHO blew through two batteries in less than a year due to them shorting out internally.

Battery tests just fine

Starter cables replaced around new years. They've been inspected and are fine.

I either hear starter/selenoid or ignition switch... any thoughts there?

Definitely a possibility. That's the biggest voltage draw through the car. What year is your car? I know the solenoid in my '90 is in the engine bay and other cars have it on the starter itself.

Was this problem happening before you replaced the starter and the battery?

I would have the alternator tested also, sometimes they can go haywire and cause the system to get all funky like that.

Problem did not occur before the starter was changed out. But it ran fine for 2 months after the starter was changed out. Battery was tested, and deemed good, not replaced.

alternator has not been checked.

I would pull the starter and have it tested if you still can't find the problem. I see that you've replaced it recently but that doesn't mean a whole lot relative to SHO reman parts...
