Upper Transmission Mount: How's Yours Holding Up?

Trying to figure out what to do with the mount that sits on top of the transmission. So far I've gathered it's a crappy part and can easily degrade, tear, or the bolt can bend. AA5Z-6038-B is the original part. There is also a police version DA5Z-6038-B with not much information online and looks basically identical to the AA5Z part. I've found that the Explorer had a similar part and eventually got an updated over engineered hydraulic mount. Unfortunately the Explorer mounts are too long and can drop the transmission low enough to cause CV axle carnage.

I've also seen users try the NA mount because they have more rubber material and honestly looks a lot stronger:

8G1Z-6031-A
W711872-S900
W711873-S439

Lastly, I see people are filling both style mounts with urethane such as 3M 08609 Window-Weld for example. I'm mostly curious who's done what, how are these mounts holding up over time, and how do they affect driving characteristics after being filled?

I'm running the AD lower mounts and I suspect this upper mount is giving me vibration and launch issues. I'm also thinking it might even be a reason why my downpipes are so close to the ground.

I have no idea what the true differences between DA5Z6038B or AA5Z6038B other than $40 and a letter A or D would be. Personally I would order both from a local dealer and compare with the removed one. I also saw that the D version for my 2014, is good for and up to 2017, I go to 2019 part numbers - same as mine.

Well, the DA5Z-6038-B is backordered. I settled on the stock part and I picked up a tube of the 3M 08609. I did consider the diymmi kit but after some research it seems the 08609 is around 76A durometer which is a little softer than the kit's 80A even trade off formula. Hopefully I don't add too much NVH going this route though

I just learned something, and thank u. Dymmi kit looks like a smart way to go. So if all the rubber in the stock is not degraded, I assume you get in there and remove anything remaining and fill with their product.

You don't have to remove anything, just degrease/clean, use contact cement and tape one end and just fill after mixing the activator. There's a video in their blog section but I believe I'm not allowed to share the link.

for anyone looking for the diymmi urethane DYI motor mount fix - here is a link to the instructions. Note - it can take up to 7 days to cure, that mean 8-10 in my book. So if you get a new one, then take the old one out and use the kit - then replace with the stock replacement after a week or so passes. It's nice you can get a AD trans mount stiffness out of the top trans mount.

my best uninformed guess is - if you use Anthony D trans mounts, the stress is shifted to the top mount, thus earlier failure rate.

I filled mine with windo weld and it helped quite a bit. My old one is at a buddies shop to get aluminum pipe welded in so I can run a leaf spring bushing instead.
Did you notice the car vibrate more with the windo weld? Any differences over the stock mount?

Not any increased vibration, but I do have the AD lower mounts, those did increase vibration.

Just loading the TC with the hood open it made a large improvement in how much the motor moved, looking with the hood open in D.
