Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum and am excited to learn as much as I can about my new grocery getter. I just purchased a 2013 police interceptor sedan with the SHO package. I'm wondering if any members here have the same car and have experienced problems with go-fast upgrades because of the frame and suspension additions ford put onto them for police service. Any feedback would be appreciated, thanks!

I think that all of the upgrades would bolt up to that just the same. I wouldn't mind one of those for my daily driver.... :)

Thanks for the input. If you decide to buy one just look for the 3.5 ecoboost, cuz some of them have the 3.7.

The Interceptor may have the EcoBoost engine, though the naturally aspirated V6 was also available to law enforcement agencies. Even if it has the EcoBoost, you don't get the transmission from the SHO. The SHO has 3.16 gears. Not sure what gears come with the Interceptor. The transmission and oil coolers are included with the Interceptor, though. I'm also not sure about the suspension, but it shouldn't be hard to get the Performance Package springs, if you want them.

Fordpimods.com might have some extra info. I never really dug into that site. I am pretty sure Jason is a member on the forum but I don't recall his user name. Probably something tricky like "Fordpimods".

There is no "SHO" package for the PI models.

As far as your concerns about modding.....

Structural frame points were "beefed up" to meet the 75mph crash threshold, I doubt you'll run into issues with "go fast" mods you are potentially looking to employ on your privately owned PI.

I do recall that the radiator is upsized versus what's offered on the SHO model(s)... either Non-PP, or PP Equipped. So that might (or might not) play into potentially any aftermarket IC you may choose (although to date, the larger IC's haven't proven their worth in relation to expense I'll add).

I think your bigger challenge will come in the form of aftermarket DP's. Trying to remember here......

There should be three distinct "Deflector Plate Shields" underneath the engine cradle. One large one at the front, that mounts from the bottom of the front frame rail, spanning outwards towards the sub frame rails. There are an addt'l two deflectors that should be present if you're looking at, or near, the LCA's on either side of the car.

All of them bolt into place, so I'd imagine you could simply unbolt them, and either remove them entirely, or possibly modify them if they happen to be causing a fitment issue in relation to aftermarket DP's.

On the upside, if you're looking into installing any aftermarket gauges (boost, iat, egt, ect, oil or tranny temp, etc.) you should have what was termed a "Dash Pass Thru" to allow you to run necessary wiring to make install easy peasy. Including any auxiliary lighting, etc.

Other than the above, I would feel comfortable saying that in a general sense, everything else available from an after market perspective, should be fine to incorporate.

What transmission comes in the police interceptor?

Thanks for all the help. As far the "sho package" I was talking about the twin turbo 3.5 motor.
The interior is definitely lacking compared to the sho. But for the bargain price I paid that's to be expected.
As far as I know it has the same transmission, but it might be geared different, and from what I've read they changed the shift points to accommodate police prefrences.
One thing that has me a little worried is there is no "sport mode" button. The ecu supposedly adjusts automatically when the car is driven harder.
The other differences not mentioned that I have found are:
an oversized alternator,
police service tires (which give a horrible ride)
And somehow they adjusted the suspension to be able to go over a curb at 40 mph, but I'm not sure what this entails.

Just curious why you chose to buy this car? Price? I saw a couple of these for sale around here about a year ago and from what I remember the interior is not the best - they don't have the center console like a regular Taurus - isn't it almost like a bench seat in the front with a steering wheel shifter, etc...?

The main reason was price. I got a clean title 2013 with 38k miles for $17k. I didnt want to make the same mistake I did with my last car (2011 cadillac ctsv), and get something so expensive that i didnt dare touch it.
It's not a bench seat but the center console is different, but it's going to allow me to build a custom gauge cluster.
