Well quick update: I had been reading through information here getting together a list of mods to start buying up…then couple days ago notice my car pulling to the right. (thinking that’s weird probably needs an alignment) I get that done Tuesday. Nothing changes. Wednesday I notice it mostly happens when I accelerate. Well that’s not good but I haven’t the time today to fix this. (this is my daily rn) Thursday morning, it’s cold, first time I have to use my heat. Heat doesn’t work. I had a few errands to run early morning before I could take car in (my daughter was not a fan of not having heat but the heated seats help keep her teeth chatter to a min…sorry again honey) Eventually I notice the air is warming up when I accelerate. I figured it’s low on coolant, checked and it is but there’s none on the ground…oh no says my daughter. Oh no indeed.

So at this point drop daughter off with grandma go straight to dealership. They are like yep everything you though could go wrong, has went wrong. Water pump and ptu took a ****, they quoted me 5300 and a week in the shop for repair… so that’s where I’m at right now with my sho experience, and ain’t even had the thing a month lol

Least this might give gearhead time to get their inter cooler back in stock ‍♂️

Also: I asked about upgrading to the PP ptu, since it has a drain plug, and they looked into it. Turns out the updated ptu has a drain plug as well. I don’t know if this was common knowledge here. New knowledge to me, so figured it might help someone else too

As far as I know there are still two different versions.

If you get the PP version, you can also have the option to retrofit the PTU cooler system from the PP as well.

PP Version:

Non-PP Version:

I was told by the dealership, the updated non-pp ptu has a drain plug, they didn’t say anything about a cooler tho, so maybe same case as pp but without cooler? I won’t pretend I’m overly familiar with these, I just know that’s what the dealership told me.

Ugh... That's what I'm most afraid of having happen to my 2013. I just had it at the dealer to do the Fuel Pump Control and Rear Toe Links recalls, throttle body, injector cleaning as well as fluid exchanges for transmission, rear diff, ptu. Obviously I'm much poorer but the car seems to be running real well. I'm hoping to avoid the water pump and timing chain issues but I'm sure they will eventually get me...

Yes the PP PTU always had the drain plug and later model versions got them also. The ones in the middle got hosed on that feature.
