OK. as some already know, I have a 3.2 rear-end victom in the garage. I will be taking the 3.2 and prepping it for my 93MTX Daily driver for a swap sometime this winter or spring.

I want to put the engine in my basement so I don't have to go out in the cold to work on it.

Has anyone done this? how hard will it be to get the engine up the stairs when it's time? I'm not as worried about getting it down the stairs.

I was thinking about putting it on a wooden sled and pulling it up the stairs to a waiting hoist or stand.

The house was built in the 40's and the stairs have a concrete bomb shelter built underneath, so don't worry about the integrity of the stairs - they will hold up fine.

Thoughts?

I personally wouldnt do that, sounds like a receipe for disaster. like not being able to get it back up or it falling on someone or falling down the steps:thumb:

LOL i thought of that too , but its unrealistic. the block alone-no heads weighs a nice 200 pound or so. and if you add up stuff on it (heads -acc) , It can jump to 500 pounds , so you cant get it upstairs...

Either get some good portable heaters for the garage, or build it in your basement like you suggest. Getting it out is simple: take it apart again when the weather is warmer. My cousin built a 23 T in his basement one winter, took it apart in the spring to get it out, put it back together, and drove away.(That would be Eddie D of Duxbury fame). Personally, I would wait til spring, and do it once.

Well. if I decide to rent a hoist and pull the engine this weekend, I'll let y'all know if it makes it downstairs.

The engine weighs 375#. Heads off, crank & pistons out. It becomes very managable to move. You could paint yourself into a corner if you assemble it in the house. I would'nt see any problem having on the second floor unless you live in a trailer.
