There is a turbo-sounding noise while accelerating, it sounds like it's coming from the passenger side of the engine-bay, and no I don't have a turbo.

It just started doing it recently, after I was driving it pretty hard.

There doesn't seem to be any performance loss.

Any ideas?

Ok, I was just drivin it.

I can get it to make the noise while parked, but only if I quickly rev the engine (Not a slow acceleration). Small hole in the exhaust (Near the engine) maybe? just enough to make a slight whistle sound?

When i slightly rev my car it whistles because of my intake. If you have one it might be that.

could the noise be a Vaccum leak?

other than that if i goose my throttle... its more of a thwump, kinda like shooting a painball gun... but thats only when i goose it...

Mine does that too, sounds like a mini turbo. Sounds cool, but for the life of me, I don't know what would be causing it. My old MTX didn't do it.

I am almost positive that is is your alternator bearing. If it is not grinding and is just whining like a supercharger, it's either an idler or acc. pulley. I have heard many bad alternator bearings that make the cars whine like that. The sound increases with speed too, just like a supercharger or turbo. Let me know 'cause I bet that's what it is.

whining noise

well dont know where to start. i had the same problem.i thought it was a number of things .idler pulleys will make it sound like turbo .i changed my belt once and the noise kept up so i just delt with.then one day i decided to try a different make belt then walla that f n noise was gone.for some reason the belt murrays kept giving me would not stop then a buddy of mines told me to try a different type of belt.its worth the try.

mine does it, my belts are new and so are my idler pulleys. its nothing to wory about, as long as it is what im thinking about..

And my MTX tranny makes a little chatter when i take off, very quiet but you can hear it with the windows down. I think its normal, maybe i just need a thicker tranny fluid

any dual overhead cam engine with a Belt will make some sort of whistlign sound. Some are louder then others. Mine is pretty loud an dsounds very cool. Give a good listen to some exotic european cars, they also have this whistle.

I'll wager that he has the elusive $1500 aftermarket SHO turbo kit and just doesn't realize it...

Nah! It got repo'd yesterday.

FWIW, my 89 was doing that a few year back. Pinpointed it to air in the PS system. A vacuum-assised purge fixed it.

My father and I both have this sound. For us it's the Quaife. The sound is loudest in third and fourth gear.

Also, due to removed sound insulation and trimmed timing covers, we can hear more noise from the timing belt and sprockets.

I love it when you hear thing typically associated with race cars.

I'm pretty sure it's your idler pulley. Everyone I know who has or has had a SHO will tell you the same. Nothing to worry about, mine does it too. You can replace it but in a lot of cases, like my car, it'll start back up in a few days. Funny that everyone thinks my car is supercharged cause of it.
