I'm replacing my brake lines and I can't loosen one of the tube nuts on the steel lines. :headbang:

It takes an 11 mm wrench and I've huffed and puffed and tried to take that @!#$# thing off. I've tried Wurth Rost Off (just like PB Blaster but better IMHO).

I've started to round the nut off. :bonk:

If that happens, should I just resort to ViseGrips.

I know I'll ruin the nut but ...

Anyways, is the only way to replace a tube nut, to replace the whole assembly because you can't take slide the nut off the flared end?

You can try the vice grips now if its rounded. Make sure you clamp them very tight! You can just cut off the flare and then make a new one after you put on a new nut, if you have enough slack in the line.

Forgive me if you already knew this, but you should never use a regular open end wrench on a tube nut - they make a special wrench for this that is less likely to round the nut off. They are called "Flare End" wrenches, and you can get them at most places that carry automotive tools.

Again - sorry if you already knew this - it wasn't clear from your post.

Yes, I used the "open ring spanner wrench" as some refer to them for tube nuts where you can't, for obvious reasons, get the box end on the nut.
