Hey guys I have a 2010 SHO when I put it in reverse it made a pop sound. Since then I can hear a roaring sound and feel it in the gas pedal even when the car isn’t moving but just in drive. In park it doesn’t do it. Is my transmission shot? I’m afraid the band in it broke.

Welp, I dont know what when pop, but the 6f50/55 doesnt use bands at all. So it's not that.

Well that’s some good news. It’s the craziest thing. As long as it’s in park or neutral no noise but as soon as you put it in gear it starts again without even moving. As it warms up it’s not as bad though. Any ideas. Thanks.

It could be torque converter, a clutch slipping but could also be the powertrain moving and contacting something maybe you broke/stripped out a half shaft? Does the car move?

Get a friend, and a stethoscope or a long screwdriver/pry bar and start listening to stuff.

If you take a long screwdriver and put it against your ear and put the tip on various components the screwdriver will transfer the noise. It might just be cheeper to go to harbor freight and get a stethoscope.

Nothing has changed with drivability of the car at all. I’ll see what I can come up with and keep ya posted. Thanks again for the help.

You said you heard a pop. Could be the trans as well.

That’s what I’m afraid of because it popped when I put it in reverse
When my PTU went out i got that same pop. Was pretty terrifying. Sometimes it wouldnt move in reverse. Had to go back into drive or park then go back to reverse. Any smells yet? My money is on PTU.

No smells at all but I did change the fluid in it.

If it does not do it in P or N, then check the driveshaft. Maybe a hanger bearing let go. That would be a "simple" fix.

Well update, wife put it in reverse and it sounded like a poker card in bicycle spokes and sounded really rough and then quit again

Unless you can isolate the sound to the RDU, you may be experiencing the same issue as SM105K did with his trans, i.e., an internal mechanical problem ...
