I just bought this car last week and this is my first stick shift in a couple of years so I'm still getting used to it. Anyhow, I just put syncromesh in my tranny yesterday but I noticed that more so in first, when I come to a stop and then put it into first, sometimes it will not always go in easy. It doesn't grind at all, it seems like I have to put a little force into it. Is that normal due to the gears having to engage one another or something? It's not hard to get it into first, I just want to know if it's normal. Is this what you mean by notchy? Thanks.

MY 91 does that. I'm pretty sure i'm in need of a new clutch kit, rebuild, and Quaife. My old 91 and 89 weren't notchy or hard into first. If you can pull your tranny easily i would replace the blocking rings for 1-2 and 3-4. That should make shifts smoother.

If you want it to slide into 1st easy, put it in 1st just before you come to a complete stop. Once you are stopped it can be a ******.

Another way to make your tranny shift better is not to use Synchromesh and use a different mixture. 2 quarts of B&M Trick Shift and 1 quart of Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF makes the tranny shift much, much easier.

Just my $.02
