Guys, I have got all the bolts, nuts washers and Flexthane together to reinforce the motor mount for my atx to mtx swap. I drilled the holes and put the 3/8" bolts thru them.

Is there someway to reinforce the transmission mount or does it need it?

Thanks,
Henry

I wouldn't reinforce the trans mount! If you do, you could break something like your transmission case

Yeah with everything solid.... something has to give.... I'd rather replace trans mounts, then transmissions....

Says who? Where's the pictures of the case busted with a solid trans mount in the same picture/vehicle? And if there is someone who pulls one out their back pocket, what are the modifications on the car and what was the situation leading up to the failure? I'm pretty sure it would have to have HD gears, HD axles, a solid front end, DD pressure plate with an aggressive disc, and S/C'd heavily with aggressive driving (who wouldn't with those mods?). In that case, I'd leave a stock trans mount and stock subframe bushings... just to help save the clutch disc from failure! :snicker:

I been running a solid front end and my case isn't broke! If the motor and transmission can't move, what's to flex the case and break it? If you run solid motor mounts and the torque on the transmission mount is minimal, as these people who say a stock mount will work because it's not stressed much with the solid motor mounts and another reason you do not need reinforced, what kind of pressure would the mounting location receive then because you said it was minimal? If it's not minimal, I guess it was a marketing statement to sell stock trans mounts? Other than that, all torque is applied to the gears and we've seen gears strip teeth before breaking the casing it's in. I'd be worried about the gears first, and if you don't have the torque to strip gears, I wouldn't even worry about anything. I keep my front end solid to transfer all the torque to the wheels and receive instant throttle response.

Edit: What's the next urban legend, solid motor mounts are going to crack our engine blocks?

It really isnt needed as the tranny mount really fails. The mount is at the pivot point is it doesnt see that much in the way of forces.

I remember seeing pic's on here of a broken case from a solid trans mount. The trannu case was cracked around the bolt holes.

I have "reinforced" a tranny mount with the "end link" idea. I don't know if it help's or not. I can tell you that if you "pre load" the "end link" too much, it makes aligning everything a pain.

FWIW, I have a bone stock tranny mount on my 400 HP sho and it does just fine.

Reinforce front + rear engine mounts and the tranny mount will only serve as a "chair" to sit the tranny on. No need to do this.

If you cant do both , at least reinforce the front one.

After reinforcing the motor mounts has anyone put the bolts back in and left an inch or 2 travel. Looks like this could be good insurance in case the mounts did break. You know much like attaching a chain on the mounts of a rear drive car?

Yes, I am doing that also, but I was talking about the bolts going thru both sides to tighten the mount back up before pouring the Devcon in. I bought the 3/8" bolts about an inch longer than needed. After the Devcon has cured I was going to remove the washers I used to tighten things up and then put the bolts back in with about an inch between the mount and the bolt head. What do you guys think about this?

Thanks,
Henry

Don't overtorque those bolts, or you just might rip the mount off them...
