Replaced the fluid today, bought 5 liters as I remembered reading somewhere it needed about 4.5,
Started draining it and then decided to look in the manual... freaked out when I read the total capacity was 10 liters. Called the wife and asked to buy 5 more.

About 4.5 liters came out, added 5. Where are the other 5?

That is a lot !
Much much more than what I'm used to see. I've replaced the transmission oil on a Sienna and a Mazda 6 and was only off by about a liter compared to what the total capacity was.

Usually the smaller more compact Asian transmissions such as those made by Aisin make do with half of what the American transmissions use.

You have to do it in cycles. Usually takes about 4 cycles to replace all of the fluid.

My 2010 is supposed to have a capacity of 10.2 quarts.
I bought 12 qts and after 3 partial changes (4 qts each - weeks apart) had swapped most of the fluid.
Each swap has progressively diminishing returns, as you are pulling out some of the new with the old after the first change. And less of the old each iteration. I figure that after 3 swaps of 4 qts each , appx 2.3 qts (22.5%) of the old was still in the system.
