My transmission was acting up the other night. Right in the middle of an intersection is decided to switch into neutral and not go back. Got the OD light flashing, you know all the good stuff.

Well, I start it up the next morning and getting it home.. slowly, the night before. And drove it around and it shifts fine again...

I bought this SHO knowing nothing about it's history. Pretty sure the ATX fluid has never been changed. Should I try to flush it and see if it will get some more life out of it? Or just not bother at all?

I have already read those, I'm just wanting to know if I should even bother spending the money to have my ATX fluid flushed...

More than likely if it's flashing and your having tranny problems it's not something as simple as a tranny flush will fix, save yourself the frustration and time and just replace it.

well, somewhat on topic, but not to your problem, is it worth flushing with synthetic (royal purple) fluid? How do you do this process without the dealers machine that flushes the torque converter? If they would allow you to bring your own fluid (outside shop I am sure) how much do you need for a complete flush?

The way I flush my tranny with out a machine is I dislocate the lower tranny cooler line from the radiator and attach a rubber hoseover the line and lead the other side into a bucket. and start the car. As the old fluid flows in, I start pouring in the new tranny fluid. It sounds weird but I know when too stop and reconnect the line because the old fluid coming out changes to the bright red clean fluid. I use about 14 or 15qts though. As far as your tranny problem, I wouldnt flush it,I would do a tranny filter change and look for any metal parts on the magnet attached to the tranny pan, and by changing the filter you replace about 5 qts of fluid. If your doing only the filter change, use normal Mercon V fluid, no neet to buy any fancy stuff when its getting mixed with older fluid. This helped me get about another 8 thousand miles out of my tranny before I had to rebuild it.goodluck

There's a thread in the "How Do I" section of this forum that explains how to flush the tranny properly.

Synthetic is good.
