Can folk include their input as to what are some good maintenance care to help for our tranny's along? What's a good transmission fluid? What not to put in your tranny? Does the Lucas really help?

Also, when rebuilding, what are good add ins that can help besides the trans-go kit? Is there a thinner vs. thicker tranny fluid?

Thanks!:thumb:

Oh, and can we provide links to whatever specific product that may be listed here! I've forgotten so many sites where SHO products and other items that the SHO can use are located. Thanks!

Lub damn????

Mobil 1 Full sythetic ATF. Expensive, but will treat your transmission much better in the long run - won't burn up, and can stay in there a bit longer.

Any fluid additive that will help with overheating tranny fluid? Or, is a bigger tranny cooler the only way? What about the tranny cooler Autozone sales? Sufficient enough?

It's uh, 17 quarts, not 17 liters. Or 16 of anything. 12 in the tranny/lines, 5 in the Torque Converter. 16 liters is a lot of damn fluid.

Oh, and I've held out for a long, long time, but it's **** DAM! NOT LUB DAMN! DAMN! :nut:

lol, ok thanks for correcting me, my spelling isn't the greatest. actually 17 quarts is more than 17 liters,1 quart [US, liquid] = 0.946 352 95 liter.:oogle:

You know....... Ford sold SHO's to people in Canada and since the Metric System is used in Canada, the specs in the manuals are in, guess what???........Metric!! So what SHO'd can't convert......... I don't know about others, but I understood what he was saying. And yes 17 quarts or 16l is a lot of fluid...especially when your paying for Mobil 1!

Sorry.... I just couldn't help myself. :laugh_ti:

Is draining tranny fluid the same process as an oil change?....unscrew and drain? I'm staying away from power flushes, so I just want to drain-hopefully every 3k-5k!!!!

Tranny fluid, if properly cared for (no smokey burnouts), will last a good 60,000 miles. Tranny fluid is not meant to be flushed often, which is why there is no drain plug on the tranny pan. You will have to remove one of the tranny lines from up front and drain it that way.

And ok, my bad on the liters/quarts thing. For some reason I was thinking gallons! :nut: :bonk:

O.k. maybe I was off a lot on those mileage numbers to change the fluid.

Haha - right.

With full synthetic Mobil 1 ATF, you can safely go 30k, going 60k, whether that is pure highway mileage or city is too long to leave the fluid in there. Granted the tranny still may work, but the fluid will be so broken down, it will have already done damage to the transmission you could have avoided by changing the fluid.
