It's all labor to replace the valve body (trans go shift kit)...

Trans Go Kit

The web site says that it's a 3 hour job.
I say...because you're in there, you might as well replace the torque converter. The TC will go out on this tranny.
So, you've basically got a $2K rebuild.

I did that recently and am $2K poorer, but I smile wherever I drive.

Edit: Just found this old thread with some interesting insight on the trans go kit...

The TransGo kit is not simply a valve body mod, the tranny itself has to come apart to properly complete the mods. TransGo does not make a valve body, part of the kit modifies the stock valve body.

as far as getting your trans rebuild. does anyone thinks that Cottman transmission is a good place to get it rebuild? they have this deal where they charge you 575 bucks to take the tranny out and open it up to tell you whats wrong with it. then if you choose to get it fix then you just pay the difference. the 575 is already included in the bill.

If the advance he works at has a commercial program, go talk to the commercial parts pro. 9 times outta 10 they know the shops in the area and who are hacks and who arn't. **** my CPP found my SHO for me, he put the word out that I was looking for one (without me knowing) and someone found it!

And if you choose not to fix it, then what happens? Do they toss the parts in the trunk and tell you get your car off the lot ASAP?

I would also want to know beforehand how much they charge on average for a complete rebuild of an ATX.

Remember, once your car is up on the lift and the tranny is in pieces, you no longer have much -if any- bargaining power. So you need to be certain about as many things as possible going in. ;)

grr the TC on mine keeps rubbing up against something or idk it's rubbing against something and causing my tranny to slip, and they think that it is overheating the tranny and causing it to blow the seal, at least that's what happened a few weeks ago. I'm getting a rebuilt on Mar 13th tho :) - I would order from the ford specialist, but i barely have enough money to cover the cost of the rebuild from the local tranny shop, which is doing it for 1400$ cuz they just did some work on the tranny and got a lot of new parts for it, and this is our 3rd car within a month that has gone in for tranny work lol :p

dang it, everytime I see that black SHO on your sig, I get upset and wanna go wreck my red one so I can go buy a sexy black one!
