Stupid question, from an ex mechanic, not much experience on manual trans. Here is the question; Does our manual trans. Drive both wheels on burn outs? I had a used trans put in and it works but seems to be weaker then the one I blew up. I thought the last trans spun both tires but not on the replacement. Please educate me thank you. I will check this on the morrow.

It can, but it's an open differential, so it won't always...it blew up because of the burnouts.

the differential in the SHO trans is not real stout, so it is not at all happy with you doing burnouts. the spider gears will self-destruct, which in turn will nearly always blow up the case. if you want to do burnouts, you need a different hot rod.

Haha lol that's to funny but it did not answer my question does the mark iv now I've had the diff welded so the next thing to go its the gears and or the shaft in the trans. So the question stand is that mark iv positrac our limited slip or single drive? No there aren't many factory cars that like burn outs.

Ok how about this question how do tell if the replacement trans is for a sho and for a tempo, or topaz, are there any distinguishing points to look for. The shift cable is different then the one that was on there.

There is a sticker on the top that should say MTX IV, and what year it's from. I don't think any one has used a trans out of a non-SHO before.

I thought the tempo/topaz mtx had a different bell housing and was lighter duty.

I've found different spots on the web that talked about those and the bell housing needs to be changed for the one that mounts to the yamahammer but the there is a little difference in the great ratio. But how true these statements are is another story. How ever I don't want to say it is or it isn't but I can definitely see and feel a difference, the car still runs good but it just does not feel like it did before the diff blew apart.
