Ok so I stopped into Advanced Autoparts today and grabbed a Hayes manual for the ford Taurus. I was reading the transaxle removal part and it says i have to remove the Transaxle from the TOP.... Every Transaxle I have removed (so far 3 of em) Have been from the bottom...

Who is right?

Hayes or the Traditional method?

Now you know why the Haynes manual is best reserved for when you run out of toilet paper....

The only way a SHO transmission is coming out the top is if you pull the engine with it.

Try to get a Helms manual on your car, sometimes they are on E-bay. A lot of manuals try to cover too many years and too many car models. Even with the Helms, the SHO stuff you are after does not take up too much of the manual, but it is not available seperately.

Just search here on how to do it. It's not bad, but it's a lot of work. You'll need a way to support the engine from the top, that also has the ability to allow you to lower the engine on the driver's side to clear the reverse sensor on the top of the trans.

I pulled mine myself, and it wasn't bad, I had the trans on a jack, and just kind of held onto the back of it to steady it when lowering it.

Just be smart, and go slow.

Getting the trans back in will be the hard part.

There is also a good step by step video that comes with written instructions from shonut performance.

It will tell how...but it won't get into the little nuances of the job, like the posts on this site have. Knowing everyone's tips makes it easier.

Got a trans today, 110k miles out of a 95 green one. I am looking at it and I have a pretty good Idea about the whole project now...

X2 the shonutperformance.com video is excellent, and includes a detailed written procedure too.
