I just got a Gen III with 105,000 on the clock. The trans fluid is really black but does not smell burnt. Will it be ok if I flush it and put a new filter or is there a bigger problem?

Hi. I would flush and filter since it sounds like it has the OE fluid in it now. The bigger problem may be a lack of maintainence by previous owners. If it were me I would also flush radiator and PS fluid. If cams are unwelded, please address that issue ASAP. Enjoy the ride.

I just flushed my 96 with 120K on it. It "may" have been changed one other time in it's life, before I bought it.
I swear the fluid looked like chochloate milk. And watching the new fluid pump out for about a second or two looked really nice and I felt alot more assured that the trans would last a little longer.

Make sure you take it to someone that will flush the entire system and use a good synthetic . Add a cooler while you are at it .
