so basically im driving a 99 with a non-overdrive switch trans, if that matters.

the car has a 2yr/25k warrenty. so as for cam-welding and transcoolers, i can do it when i have time, because a normal failiure is covered.

a few weeks into owning the car the transmission, which shifts fine, decided to puke out all its trans fluid onto a random parking lot in boston.
towed to the shop, techs said it was a bad pan gasket, replaced the gaskit, and filled the fluid, also putting in some of that wynns stuff (i use lucas personally and have no idea how good/bad wynns is).

2 weeks and about 800 mi later...
im deep into CT job/appartment hunting, and sure enough, the overdrive light starts to flash, i immeadiatly pullover (learning from my previous 99 haha matt). Once again. ******* trans fluid, all over the exhaust big mess etc...

car was towed via AAA to a local shop. They said the person who did the previous trans service left the pan a little loose. however they were puzzled because that would have created a slow leak, and i had been checking periodically in my appartment driveway after the 1st job was done, and i was left with another "total blowout" of the transpan for the 2nd time in two weeks. The Shop tightened the pan, replaced the lost fluid, road tested it, and said the car seems to be shifting normally and isnt leaking or overheating, given there not taking the car too too far, but are brining it up to full temp. They also advised that whoever did the previous gasket also should have flushed the thing as theres alot of sludge buildup in the converter...something i will look into this week.

my only concern is im wondering if the tranmission (which isnt throwing any codes) has some sort of overheating problem moreso than your average SHO transmission (reconizing gen III trans cooling is non-existant from the factory) and if i should push the dealer/warrenty company to rebuild and/or relapace the trans if this happens again.

IIRC, a flashing O/D light means the tranny temps exceeded 300°F. That would explain your tranny puking fluid most likely - coming out the vent from thermal expansion and possibly boiling.

Sounds like it's time to get a cooler on it, do a complete fluid and filter change, and start saving for a new tranny.

Something tells me that the cooler that you have already isn't cutting it. Perhaps the lines are kinked or blocked, not allowing proper cooler flow?

The last time I saw an ATX SHO throw a flashing O/D light was 5 laps into a session at Gingerman.

Oh, and when your cams fail, and the warranty pays you book value, rather than repairing the engine, you're going to be really, really salty.

Just a heads up.

You're either blowing fluid out the vent or out the converter seal.

Just go the DIY cam weld route. I hear that's the popular thing to do. Just **** in the faces of your friends who would have helped you out. Oh well. :nut:

Once the fluid has hit 300F it's toast and needs to be changed as quick as possible,
