Well, here is the issue.

Ever since I installed my southbend TZ clutch and Fidanza flywheel I have been having trouble shifting quickly at high rpms. I also have been dealing with a "crunchy" clutch feel. (see: nevermind, the thread is gone)

Recently everything has become more severe:
-I can barely get into gear from a stop. I have to move the shifter back and forward and all over the place to try and find a gate that will let me in. Then I can put it into first. I do that, or if I'm in a hurry I just push HARD and it crunches into gear (not really a grind, more of a crunch).

-Something makes a very strange noise as I depress and release the clutch pedal (even with the engine off). It is hard to descibe: Feels like something is rubbing ******* the quill shaft or something is sticky on my pressure plate. Sounds like....Crunching!

So what do you think it is? Clutch or Trans? If it is the clutch I will be upset...it is only ~10K old.

Thanks

I have a similar pedal feel which I am blaming on a bad clutch cable - the previous clutch had it, as does this one. If it is not the clutch cable, it could also be the TOB fork. Where does the clutch engage at? Right at the floor?

sounds like the PP bolts might be backing out. There is a TSB about it on shotimes.

linky - http://www.shotimes.com/SHO3clutchvibrate.html

I saw one do this on Kevin Hanks car, his only had the clutch on it for about 2k and the bolts were finger tight when we got in there. 2 of the 3 dowels had also been sheared off the FW.

It sounds clutch (PP) or TOB related to me but regardless you're going to have to pull the tranny in order to verify that. When it's down why not crack open the case halves and check the internals out while you have it down? If there's nothing found wrong inside then it costs you nothing more than a tube of anaerobic sealant at $15.00. If there is something wrong then you fix what's wrong and you won't have to go through the headaches of pulling the trans again, etc. etc.

Clutch engagement is about normal (what is was on the old clutch).

Looks like I will be pulling the trans again. Thanks for the advice. I will come back to this thread (or start a new one) when I am ready to do it. Then I may need some advice about how to spot damage, wear, etc. in the trans. Thanks.

mine makes a squeeky sound, but i think its the cable its squeeky.

Probably so, that or the bushings in the trans case may be filled with gack which can cause a squeeky sound and a gritty feeling pedal.

Ty, let me know if you need any questions answered. I've got a lot of pics that I can share with you also of both good and bad tranny parts.
