Is changing my tranny fluid from whatever is in there to synchromesh or redline ,something that I could do in my driveway? It sounds simple just remove the plug somehow vaccum out the old and then use a caulking gun or something to fill it up again is it really that simple or does it involve some actual flushing. If so what would a tranny shop charge for somthng like this? I have another question that doesnt pertain to this but I dont want to start a new topic on it. My sho has a problem with surging or chugging when I am at a lower rpm. It doesnt sound like the problem that is being discussed a few topics below this. When I leave for a stop sign in first and go 1/2 or more throttle the car seems to chug till the secondaries open up. The chugging feels like when you let the clutch out a little too fast Im lost as to what this could be.

I don't know about the driviablity issue, but yes it is that easy to change your trans fluid.

Hey mustangdude,

There should be a procedure on SHOtimes that shows how to install a drain plug in your MTX if you don't already have one.

Once you have a hole in the bottom of your transaxle, the fluid drains right out. (roughly 3 qts)

Get a transmission funnel from your local auto parts store, and fill it up. Personally, I think the Redline fluid is phenominal. That's what I've been running for the past few years, and all shifts are nice and crisp. A friend of mine has been using Mobil 1 ATX fluid. His shifter feels great too.

Now, to answer your other question. If you are experiencing bucking and missing at low rpm, and you have no check engine light, there's a possibility that you have excess oil collecting in your spark plug wells which causes fouling. To check if that is the case. Yank one or two of your front plug wires, and see if it's wet with oil.
